What is the Family Self-Sufficiency Program?
The Carrollton Housing Authority Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program is designed to prepare residents for economic self-sufficiency. Over 2-5 years participants will take the necessary steps for economic independence. All residents will work closely with a case manager to map out goals that will aid them in becoming more independent. The FSS case managers will also connect the participants with the necessary community resources to help them complete their goals, as well as help provide supportive services.
Funding from the Family Self-Sufficiency Program is provided through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Carrollton Housing Authority and other various community resources also provide indirect funding, by offering free classes, childcare and financial assistance when the funding is available.
Want to make your rent work for you?
While enrolled in this program all participants have the opportunity to save money in an escrow account. Once a participant is employed and has a significant rent increase, a portion of that amount is placed in an interest bearing savings account by the Housing Authority. Once the program is completed all funds will be dispersed to each participant, with the goal of using the money as a down payment on a house, car, or to further their education.
Who can participate?
Anyone at least the age of 18 with a desire for success can participate. Spaces are quickly filling, along with all of the wonderful opportunities the program has to offer.
