It’s the New Year and a new start for the Carrollton Housing Authority Abstinence Education Program (AEP). The past year was a success and we are optimistic that the year 2010 will be even better! Many participants and staff have made New Year’s resolutions that enable them to be better, more productive citizens, students and community leaders. Speaking of resolutions, one that will never change for AEP is our commitment to continuing efforts in promoting and providing abstinence until marriage education to community youth, schools, and organizations. We need your help to make this resolution remain a reality.
The AEP is continuously seeking new enrollments. The program is absolutely free and open to any youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years. We currently have four main sites within the city of Carrollton and two community outreach sites. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and we also conduct one Saturday activity and/or event per month, for participants to attend.
The Carrollton Housing Authority Abstinence Education Program is funded under the Community Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) Grant, administered by the Administration for Children and Families, at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Carrollton Housing Authority Abstinence Education Program will be hosting its 4th Annual Teen Summit Event on September 18th, 2010, 11:00am to 4:00pm. This event is free and open to Carroll County teens between the ages of 12 and 18, their parents, educators, and community leaders. We are expecting a turn-out of 500+ individuals and we are writing to ask for your support.
The purpose of the summit is to educate our youth on the importance of making smart and healthy life decisions. This year’s theme is entitled the H.Y.P.E Youth Summit 2010, which is an acronym for Helping Youth Pursue Excellence. It will be an opportunity for teens to experience a positive youth movement pertaining to healthy decision making, goal setting, self-discipline, abstinence, positive character, and much more.
The summit will include parent workshops and a ton of interactive games for the youth to participate in. We will also be raffling door prizes (including desk-top computers) and other digital, teen-friendly items. Parents will also have raffle opportunities for household items and gift cards.
The event is absolutely FREE and everything is all-inclusive.
We hope to see you and your youth there. Thank you again for your generous support of our efforts in working with teens, families, groups, organizations and communities.
